Remembrance Day ceremonies will be held across the country this Friday as Canadians from coast to coast come together to remember and honour those who have served their country.
There are several ceremonies being held in and around Edmonton on Nov. 11. Here are a few:
Edmonton City Hall
Mayor Don Iveson will be in attendance at the Remembrance Day ceremony at city hall. Seating in the City Room will start at 9:45 a.m. and will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. Seating will end at 10:10 a.m., with the ceremony scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m.City Hall cenotaph
Following the ceremony inside Edmonton City Hall, a wreath-laying ceremony will be held outside on the City Hall plaza. It’s set to start at 10:55 a.m. Spectators are asked to be in place by 10:50 a.m.
University of Alberta Butterdome
A Remembrance Day ceremony will take place in the Butterdome at the Van Vliet Centre on the University of Alberta campus. People are asked to be seated by 10 a.m.
West Edmonton Mall
Jasper Place Branch #355 of the Royal Canadian Legion will hold a Remembrance Day ceremony at the West Edmonton Mall Ice Palace. The service begins at 10 a.m.
Patricia Park (Griesbach)
The 1st Battalion, Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry (PPCLI) will host a service at Patricia Park located in Griesbach. The service will start at 10:45 a.m. Guests are asked to arrive by 10:30 a.m.
A church service will be held at Maranatha Christian Reformed Church at 9:30 a.m. followed by a parade at 10:20 a.m., which will make its way from the church to the Beverly Cenotaph. The Remembrance Day service at the cenotaph will start at 11 a.m.
A parade starts at 10:45 a.m., followed by a Remembrance Day service at 11 a.m. at the cenotaph, located on the grounds of the Kingsway Legion.
A church service will be held at the Northwest Seniors Centre at 10 a.m., followed by a parade at 10:30 a.m. and a service at the cenotaph at 10:50 a.m.
Light Horse Park
A parade at Holy Trinity Anglican Church starts at 10 a.m. Those attending the church parade are asked to be seated by 9:30 a.m. After the service, the parade will make its way to Light Horse Park for the ceremony at 10:45 a.m.
Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum
The Loyal Edmonton Regiment Military Museum, located in the Prince of Wales Armouries Heritage Centre, will hold a Remembrance ceremony at 10 a.m.
St. Albert Cenotaph
A parade starts at the St. Albert Cenotaph on St. Anne Street at approximately 10:45 a.m. A ceremony will follow at 10:55 a.m.
A Remembrance Day ceremony will be held at Millennium Place in Sherwood Park at 10:30 a.m.
Leduc will hold a Remembrance Day ceremony at the Leduc Recreation Centre. People are asked to be seated by 9 a.m., as the ceremony will start at 9:15 a.m. Following the service, a wreath-laying ceremony will take place at the Leduc Cenotaph at the Civic Centre.
The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 281, in partnership with the City of Spruce Grove, will host the annual Remembrance Day service at the TransAlta Leisure Centre. People are asked to be seated by 10:15 a.m.
